Desmond's Behind the Scenes Connection...
So throughout the Lost episodes we have seen how pretty much everyone is tied in together; in a sort of 1 or 2 degrees of separation, rather than 6...
So what is Desmond's connection to anyone else besides Jack? Is that it? It IS strange enough that Jack came across him running with a Jersey on that looks like a 33rd Degree Freemason two-headed bird. But there's more to it than that.
So here's our boy Desmond in a picture with his girl from early Season 2.
And here they are planning to adopt Claire's baby:
All of this continues to beg the question of how everything could be THIS intricately intertwinned within the plot, and how that relates to the Valenzetti Equation; the same Equation that presumably gives the Others the seemingly uncanny ability to predict the actions of the survivors with little or no variance in their actuation.

i love this connection, but didn't Claire meet this couple right before she got on the flight? and desmond had been on a round the world trip and been on the island for some time so how can it be the same person?
Goooood point. i'd be interested in re-watching the episode where Jack meets Desmond on the bleachers AND the one where Claire meets the couple... It'd be good to try to figure out the time line of all that. Arguably, Claire wouldn't have met them RIGHT before the trip, but i couldn't place this on a 9 month timeline without rewatching... Additionally, i'm not sure/don't think they ever said how long Desmond was in the Hatch. Remember, all of this is happening within a TINY length of time in the first place. Maybe Desmond had only embarked on his trip for a bit and had been in the hatch for a few months. Any thoughts?
Are you assuming this picture of Desmond and the adoption lady (for the record, her name was Arlene Stewart on the show) was recent? There is no confirmation that this is even the same actress, but it really, really looks like it. Anyhow, this picture could be very old, even have been taken around the same time as the Jack encounter. So I guess I don't see why the timeline couldn't work and make this the same person?
Also, if you watch back the Season 2 open, the production makes it look like the opening scene only takes place within a few minutes, but there is much evidence that it takes place over a much longer period of time. For instance, look at his fingernails in the beginning then look at them when he is peering through the scope at Jack and Locke. There is lots of evidence out there about this.
Anyway, the point is that time is never what it seems on this show.
Good points. Yeah, i'm assuming that this is a tight connection, even though there is no definitely confirmation beyond a visual connection. What you said makes sense. i think it could fit.
